Hospital ancillary software vendor Mediware Information Systems in recent years has expanded to serve providers in alternative settings outside the hospital via acquisitions. The company is continuing that strategy by acquiring MediServe, its fourth buy in 2012.

Chandler, Ariz.-based MediServe sells information systems to manage inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation and respiratory care facilities. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Mediware itself was acquired by private equity firm Thoma Bravo in November.

During 2012, Mediware also bought blood management consultancy Strategic Healthcare Group, the Cyto Management System to manage chemotherapy, and Transtem, which sells software to manage the collection and transplantation of adult stem cells.

Other alternative care companies acquired since 2008 include specialty pharmacy information systems vendor Hann’s On Software, Healthcare Automation for home health management, Advantage Reimbursement for home health billing, and the home medical equipment and infusion businesses of CareCentric. In total, Mediware now has made 11 acquisitions in six years.
