Following its acquisition of mobile cart vendor Rioux Vision last year, Mountain View, Calif.-based Omnicell Inc. is making its SafetyMed suite of medication applications more mobile. The vendor's bar code medication administration software now can run on wireless PCs or laptop computers mounted on its carts.

Omnicell also plans to enable the other applications in the suite, including a pharmacy system and medication cabinet application, to be used on a wireless computing device on the carts. Until now, these applications could not be wirelessly accessed.

Omnicell also plans to continue selling the mobile carts as standalone products. They can be configured with drawers and other accessories.

The vendor announced the integrated system at the unSUMMIT conference for Bedside Barcoding conference, which is being held this week in Austin, Texas. For more information, go to omnicell.com.
