CMS Seeks More Ideas on Conducting End-to-End ICD-10 Testing

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has been working with the Healthcare Billing & Management Association and some other groups on developing consensus for end-to-end testing for migration to ICD-10 codes. Now, CMS has scheduled a number of Web-based “listening sessions” in coming days to get more industry input. Following is a CMS statement:

This is misleading in that the CMS effort is to define broadly a process for end to end testing of any HIPAA changes. It is not just and ICD-10 effort, although ICD-10 is certainly one of the changes that needs to be tested. For this effort, industry should not focus on ICD-10 testing, but on end to end testing in general.

There are several other efforts which focus only on the immediate need to develop ICD-10 end to end testing processes, including the HIMSS-WEDI ICD-10 pilot and several WEDI workgroup efforts; as well as some localized efforts in several states.
