The Massachusetts eHealth Institute, which operates the state's federally funded regional extension center to aid providers in adopting electronic health records, has endorsed 10 EHR vendors.

Regional extension centers--60 nationwide have received HITECH Act funds-- increasingly are endorsing a subset of EHR vendors. The idea is to do the early due diligence work of vendor selection and present physicians with a manageable list of finalist vendors, which can substantially ease the vendor selection process and spur EHR adoption. Most endorsing centers have selected three to five vendors.

For Massachusetts, the recommended EHR vendors are Allscripts, athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, eMDs, Epic, GE Healthcare, Greenway, MedPlus, NextGen and Sage Software.

The regional extension center also has certified 18 EHR implementation and optimization organizations, and is offering a financing program through Webster Bank. More information is available at maehi.org.
