The Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients, the designated statewide health information exchange for Maryland, has chosen Axolotl Corp. as the vendor for its core HIE platform.

Funds to build the not-for-profit HIE come from insurers operating in the state, as well as a $3.9 million stimulus grant from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. The HIE will start with such services as transcribed reports and lab and radiology results, and eventually expects to offer point-of-care decision support, among other functions.

When completed, HIE advocates envision connecting 47 acute care hospitals, 7,900 physicians and ancillary provider sites.

San Jose, Calif.-based Axolotl has been selected as the core vendor for three other state-designated HIEs in Idaho, Nebraska and Utah. More information is available at crisphealth.org.
