Pathologists do not interact with patients to a degree to meet meaningful use measures, nor do they use a core EHR, and should not be penalized for noncompliance through reduced Medicare payments, according to the legislation, H.R. 1309. Price was an orthopedic surgeon in private practice for nearly 20 years before becoming an assistant professor at Emory University School of Medicine and medical director at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. He served in the Georgia Senate before election to Congress in November 2004.
