The Health Information Technology Extension Center for Los Angeles has announced athenahealth, eClinicalWorks and Office Ally as preferred electronic health records vendors.

Many regional extension centers are picking vendor partners that have agreed to sell products and services at reduced prices, often with standard contract provisions. The goal is to speed the vendor selection process by having RECs conduct initial due diligence work and give providers a list of finalists from which to make their EHR selection.

The Los Angeles REC, called HITEC-LA, previously selected eight vendors following evaluations of proposals and has completed contracting with the three that have been announced. Funded with a $15.6 million federal grant under the HITECH Act, the REC's goal is to assist at least 3,000 primary care providers to achieve meaningful use by April 2014.
