Kaiser Targets Mobile Devices

Kaiser Permanente has launched its first mobile app, called KP Locator, which enables the accessing of its online facility directory via an iPhone.

The app, using Google maps, is designed to enable a consumer to input a city name or zip code to find Kaiser facilities in the area. Users tap the desired location to access the address, phone number, available departments and services, and directions.  KP Locator is available for free at the iPhone App Store. Later in 2011, KP Locator will support other mobile platforms.

Kaiser's Web-based My Health Manager personal health record already is accessible via any smart phone, but the organization is optimizing the service to provide easier viewing and navigation on the devices. That task will be complete later this year.

Looking to build better care coordination, health systems are buying physician groups in droves. Making the deal work, however, requires careful management on the I.T. front.
