Joy Grosser takes top IT position at University Hospitals

It’s the fifth CIO position for 24-year veteran, who comes from UnityPoint Health.

University Hospitals in Cleveland has named Joy Grosser as Chief Information Officer for the 18-hospital delivery system, effective September 12.

This is the fifth CIO position for Grosser, who most recently served at UnityPoint Health in West Des Moines, Iowa, and has 24 years of experience in senior IT positions at healthcare organizations.

In addition, Grosser previously served as CIO at Health Midwest, then as executive director of IT at Loyola University Health System, CIO at University of California Irvine Health System, and the past six years at Unity Point.

At University Hospitals, Grosser, who has a Bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from Stanford and a Master’s degree in health administration from Washington University in St. Louis, will report to Michael Szubski, chief financial officer.

“We look forward to welcoming Joy to Northeast Ohio,” Szubski said in a statement. “Her impressive accomplishments and collaborative leadership style will advance our mission and help us achieve our information technology improvement goals.”

Grosser succeeds Sue Schade, who was filling the CIO role at University Hospitals on an interim basis.
