Ireland's national health program, Health Service Executive, will implement in its 35 public hospitals the Horizon radiology information systems and picture archiving and communication system from McKesson Corp.

Combined with the vendor's visualization, research, electrocardiography and dictation/speech recognition/transcription software, the government will standardize medical imaging I.T. and use a central database to serve as a national image archive.

The national health program has deployed the McKesson applications in four hospitals and expects installation in the others within the next 20 months.

More information on the National Integrated Medical Imaging System, valued at about $54 million U.S. dollars, is available here.
