The Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise North American Connectathon 2013 has been scheduled for Jan. 28-Feb. 2 in Chicago.

Connectathon is an annual event of software vendors coming together to get their information systems to exchange data with other systems. Participation is a prerequisite for vendors to participate in the Interoperability Showcase at the annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition.

Vendors not yet ready for the showcase, however, can participate in Connectathon. The 2012 event featured more than 120 participants testing about 150 systems. Each Connectathon includes a one-day conference that provides educational and networking opportunities, in addition to the multiple days of testing the electronic exchange of health information.

Registration for Connectathon 2013 opens in August. More information is available at iheusa.org.

A feature story in the March issue of Health Data Management examined the impact of the annual event and walked through Connectathon 2012.
