The newly formed District of Columbia Regional Health Information Organization will use Microsoft Corp.s Amalga integration software to enable the sharing of data between two hospitals and six community health centers.
Previously known as Azyxxi, the software pulls data from disparate information systems, patient monitoring devices and medical imaging systems and stores the information in a central data repository. The software has a component that does a probabilistic match based on a patients demographic information.
The District of Columbia Primary Care Association is a leader of the D.C. RHIO, which includes Georgetown University Hospital and Washington Hospital Center. Enabling physicians at the hospitals to view patient information stored in systems at the health centers will improve the quality of care and chronic disease management, and reduce duplicative work such as lab tests, according to proponents.
