McKesson Works to Boost Connectivity

HDM Breaking News, November 12, 2009

McKesson Corp. is working to improve connectivity between its inpatient and ambulatory information systems--and ambulatory systems of other vendors--by using the networking technology of its RelayHealth unit.

Initially, the San Francisco-based vendor is integrating its Horizon inpatient and ambulatory clinical software with a RelayHealth connectivity platform called Horizon Connect. McKesson also plans to link to Relay Health the inpatient and ambulatory components of its Paragon community hospital information system.

Providence Health and Services in Portland, Ore.; and Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., are development partners. They are working with the vendor to enable the exchange of discrete clinical data between the acute care Horizon Clinicals suite and ambulatory electronic health records systems from McKesson and other companies. Among other benefits, the integration can ease the medication reconciliation process, according to McKesson.
