Socket Mobile Inc. has added an antimicrobial coating on the latest versions of its wireless hand-held bar code scanners.

Laboratory tests showed the coating reduces Staph bacteria on the devices by more than 99% according to the Newark, Calif.-based vendor.

The Bluetooth-enabled devices with the coating are the Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner 7NRx, available now; and the CMOS 2D imager CHS 7xRx, available in the third quarter.

More information is available at socketmobile.com.
