Illinois and Iowa have recently selected vendors to build and operate their statewide health information exchanges, funded under the HITECH Act.

Illinois will go with InterSystem Corp.’s HealthShare product under a $7.25 million contract. The state received an $18.8 million federal grant over four years and expects initial operations to start in April 2012. More information is available at hie.illinois.gov.

The ACS consultancy unit of Xerox is the prime contractor in Iowa under a contract totaling $12 million over five years. ACS’ technology partners are Informatics Corp. of America in Nashville and two Iowa-based firms: Genova Technologies in Cedar Rapids and LightEdge Solutions in Des Moines. The state received a four-year HITECH grant of $8.375 million. Pilots are scheduled to start in July 2012 with full implementation expected by year-end.
