Book Tackles Medical ID Theft

The American Health Information Management Association has published a new book that probes issues surrounding medical identity theft.

Titled “Medical Identity Theft,” the book is targeted to health information management professionals, privacy and security officers, and risk managers. It covers preventive policies; internal and external threats; risk and exposure mitigation; HIPAA compliance; and best practices to resolve incidents.

Authors include Cindy Nichols, health information management privacy officer at Hospital Corporation of America in Nashville, Tenn.; Nancy Davis, privacy and security officer at Ministry Health Care in Milwaukee; Chrisann Lemery, compliance specialist and a privacy/security officer at WEA Trust Insurance in Madison, Wis.; and Clarice Smith, regional HIM director at Community Health Systems in Brentwood, Tenn.

The book, which sells for $59.95, with a substantial discount for AHIMA members, is available at ahima.org.
