How to Make Better Presentations

Anyone in a physician practice administrator position at some point will need to make a presentation, and probably multiple times, says Karen Marcelo, administrative director at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation in Chicago.

Anyone in a physician practice administrator position at some point will need to make a presentation, and probably multiple times, says Karen Marcelo, administrative director at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation in Chicago.

At the Medical Group Management Association 2011 Annual Conference, Oct. 23-26 in Las Vegas, Marcello will co-host an educational session on presentations with Marsha Bennett, administrative director at Saint Louis University in St. Louis. "We're trying to make it interactive," Marcelo says. "Our goal is that participants will actually have practice time in an interview or meeting situation."

Marcelo and Bennett will talk about meeting management basics--what to do in meetings and how to put your presentation together, engage the audience and leave the right lasting impression. And they'll do a comical skit poking fun at themselves to take the edge off before breaking audience members into smaller groups to present in front of others and critique themselves.

"We want the participants who come to have fun in a safe environment where they can have the opportunity to present themselves," Marcelo says.

Session A9: "Presenting...YOU," is scheduled at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24. More information is available at mgma.com.
