Charleston (W.Va.) Area Medical Center on Feb. 16 posted a notice on its Web site explaining a data breach affecting about 3,655 patients that occurred only eight days earlier.
Under the breach notification rule, organizations have 60 days from the date when they learn of a breach to report it and many organizations have needed most of that time to conduct the forensic investigations often required to fully understand the scope of a breach. What follows is Charleston Medical's statement:
