Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, Calif., five months ago launched a health information exchange platform to share reports with community physicians.

Today, about 250 physicians have connected to the HIE, which uses technology from Medicity Inc., Salt Lake City. The goal is to have 500 physicians using the service by Oct. 2011, says Tim Moore, CIO. The hospital is exchanging laboratory, radiology, pathology and transcribed reports, as well as face sheets.

The HIE is integrated with electronic health records software from Allscripts and eClinicalWorks, with other products soon following. Physicians without EHRs can access and print reports. Hoag Memorial in January expects to start pilot testing a data aggregation initiative to establish a community health record.
