The committees are advisory bodies to the Department of Health and Human Services. The department recently issued a proposed rule to create the meaningful use incentive program and an interim final rule to establish data standards, implementation specifications and EHR certification criteria. HHS also expects to issue a rule establishing the actual certification program.

The HIT Policy Committee's privacy and security workgroup will meet Feb. 3 and 19, the strategic plan workgroup will meet Feb. 9 and 26, and the adoption/certification workgroup will meet on Feb. 11.

The HIT Standards Committee's privacy and security workgroup will meet on Feb. 18 and the clinical operations vocabulary workgroup will meet on Feb. 23. More information on all of the meetings is available at http://healthit.hhs.gov.
