Salt Lake Community College in Utah has introduced a health information technology certificate program, funded under a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor Community Trade Adjustment Assistance program to retrain workers.

The college’s program will provide training in transferring information on medical records to electronic health records, security systems and ICD-10 coding. The program targets individuals looking for jobs in the health care industry, and workers in the industry seeking new skills for career advancement.

The Utah Workforce Education & Retraining for Knowledge & Skills program administers the training program under the grant. The Labor Department grant program is separate from a stimulus-funded health information technology training program that the Office of the National Coordinator for HIT administers, covering more than 70 community colleges across the nation.
