Correction: OCR HIPAA Rule Scheduled for March

Health Data Management on Feb. 13 erroneously reported that the expected final rule covering the HIPAA privacy, security, breach notification and enforcement rules was not in the Department of Health and Human Services’ new semi-annual regulatory agenda listing forthcoming regulations.

The rule, ID number 0945-AA03, is buried and not easily found, but is in the agenda. It has an expected publication date of March 2012. Dates in the agenda are not always reliable, but the rule clearly is anticipated by the HHS Office for Civil Rights to be published soon.

Health Data Management apologizes for the error.

The regulatory agenda also shows that the final rule governing Accounting of Disclosures under the HIPAA Privacy Rule is expected in June 2012.

Looking to build better care coordination, health systems are buying physician groups in droves. Making the deal work, however, requires careful management on the I.T. front.
