Information technology vendors confident that they have the next hottest software to change the health care delivery system are invited to test their mettle … before a panel of expert judges during the HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition, Feb. 21-24 in Orlando, Fla.

HIMSS11 will feature “HIT X.0, Beyond the Edge,” a conference within the conference with a dozen sessions focused on the future of health I.T. Two of those sessions are titled “HIT Geeks Got Talent?” and they are modeled after the “America’s Got Talent” television show.

The first session on Feb. 21 will enable vendors to demonstrate their hot product to the judges with finalists coming back for another shot the following day. Applications are being accepted through Jan. 17. Judges for the competition are Jonathan Teich, M.D., CMO at Elsevier; Lyle Berkowitz, M.D., medical director of clinical informatics at Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group; Erica Drazen, partner at CSC Healthcare Group; and Dave Garets, executive director at Advisory Board Company.

Other sessions in the HIT X.0 conference, which will become an annual feature, cover what physicians are doing with smart phones, a look at tomorrow’s technology with Siemens’ John Glaser, an introduction to clinical groupware, return on investment being seen from emerging technologies, and integrating genomic and molecular data with clinical data, among other issues.
