A new report from vendor research firm KLAS Enterprises examines health information management personnel satisfaction with outsourced services vendors in such areas as transcription, coding, scanning and release of information.

The report focuses on vendor turnaround times, report quality, account management administrative tools, giving details on least 18 vendors. Nuance Communications and M*Modal, because of their size and more comprehensive product lines, dominate market share. Top marks for patient satisfaction, however, go to Precyse and TransTech.

The biggest HIM department challenges, in order, are information technology, regulations, staffing, transcription, staff education, keeping records current, report quality, coding, clinical documentation improvement and release of information, HIM professionals told KLAS.

The report, “HIM Services 2012: Helping to Weather the Storm,” is available at klasresearch.com/klasreports, at a considerable discount for providers.
