Three health information exchange vendors recently announced new interoperability initiatives or milestones:

* The Kansas Health Information Network is exchanging continuity of care documents with Hutchinson Clinic, which has 70 physicians working in 16 locations covering central Kansas. The network in November linked to the federal BioSense electronic public health surveillance network to transmit anonymous aggregate syndromic data from emergency departments. In July, it began offering secure clinical messaging software using the federally developed Direct Project protocols. Informatics Corporation of America, known as ICA, is the platform vendor for the Kansas Health Information Network.

* Interface developer InteliChart will build interfaces for various electronic health records products so that RelayHealth, the connectivity unit of McKesson Corp., can more easily link to the EHRs, starting with NextGen products. The interfaces will cover such areas as lab and radiology orders and results, transcription, admission/discharge/transfer and Continuity of Care Documents.

* Orion Health has introduced Orion Health Mobile, an application enabling clinicians secure access to patient data via Apple mobile devices. The app includes customized patient work lists, patient search capability, a results/report viewer with sign-off, and ability to mark and prioritize results.
