Michigan Health Information Network, the federally funded, state-designated entity to support health information exchange across the state, will enable health consumers to view a record of instances of access to their protected health information.

MiHIN has contracted with HIPAAT International, a vendor of consent management and auditing software, and will offer the consumer control service statewide. The software facilitates creation of consistent privacy policies, management of consent and opt-out preferences, and integrates with HIEs and electronic health records systems, according to the vendor.

MiHIN also will use the vendor’s auditing services to create the audit records of access to PHI for consumers to request. More information is available at mihin.org and hipaat.com.
