The Department of Health and Human Services has launched an initiative to develop privacy and security best practices when using mobile computing devices in a health care setting.

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and Office for Civil Rights lead the initiative, called the Privacy & Security Mobile Device Project.

The project will build on existing HIPAA Security Rule guidance for mobile use from HHS to identify best practices and communicate them in plain language to industry stakeholders. HHS will schedule a public roundtable during the spring to solicit input.
