Rodriguez succeeds Georgina Verdugo, who served for two years. Susan McAndrew remains as the top health care privacy and security administrator at OCR.
Rodriguez has served since January 2010 as chief of staff and deputy assistant attorney general in the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division. From May 2007 to January 2010, he was county attorney in Montgomery County, Md., and for six prior years served in the health law department at the law firm Ober, Kaler, Grimes & Shriver. He served as an attorney at Justice from 1994 to 2001, and previously as an assistant district attorney in Brooklyn for six years. He is fluent in Spanish and French.
