HealthStream Buys Decision Critical to Augment Talent Management

Online health care education vendor HealthStream has expanded its talent management product line with the acquisition of Decision Critical Inc. of Austin, Texas.


Online health care education vendor HealthStream has expanded its talent management product line with the acquisition of Decision Critical Inc. of Austin, Texas.

The $4.3 million acquisition includes $3.5 million in cash, 22,124 shares of HealthStream stock and a $300,000 contingency payment for meeting certain milestones. Nashville, Tenn.-based HealthStream serves hospitals and delivery systems of all sizes and counts more than half of acute care facilities as clients.

Decision Critical sells the Critical Portfolio suite of software to enable hospital administrators to store and view the qualifications, competencies and other skill sets of employees, including licenses, educational records and credentials. Skills checklists and evaluation tools also are available. Employees can maintain an individual profile.

Ken Dion, R.N., founder and CEO at Decision Critical, will serve as vice president of nursing informatics at HealthStream.
