Kerry Hicks, founder and CEO of consumer health information Web site operator HealthGrades, is stepping down and will assume the chairmanship of the company. Current chair Roger Holstein will become CEO and assume day-to-day operations, and remain a director.

The move will enable Hicks to focus on corporate strategies and building external relationships. Denver-based HealthGrades operates Web sites enabling consumers to search for physicians, dentists and hospitals, with quality ratings and profiles of 5,000 hospitals, 750,000 physicians and 16,000 nursing homes, as well as consumer-oriented medical reference content. The sites generate more than 100 million visitors annually, according to the company. HealthGrades in November 2011 acquired Madison, Wis.-based CPM Marketing Group, a vendor of customer relationship management software.

Holstein also is a managing director at Vestar Capital Partners, which owns HealthGrades. He previously served as CEO at WebMD and as a board member at Press Ganey.
