HealthBridge, a Cincinnati-based health information exchange and participant in the federal government Beacon Community Program to be a model for information technology adoption, has gone live with software to alert physicians when their patients have an emergency department visit or hospital admission.

The new ED Admit Alert System is live for 33 primary care practices in HealthBridge’s service area across parts of three states, with another 52 practices expecting to go live in coming weeks. Twenty-one hospitals are sending messages to the HIE when an ED visit or admission occurs.

The alert system operates in real time when HealthBridge receives a message, matching the message against patient panels from participating practices and immediately notifying the appropriate physician.
