The Montreal Region Health Authority will test software to automate Health Level Seven interface scoping, testing and management.

The test is part of a regionwide initiative to implement electronic health records in 89 hospitals, as well as ambulatory facilities, long-term care centers, health and social services centers and other sites. The health authority will use HL7 management software from Caristix in Quebec City.

The pilot will involve 15 hospitals, 30 information systems and more than 100 interfaces, according to the vendor. Its software enables automation of interface specification development, testing and maintenance to reduce implementation time and costs. More information is available at caristix.com.

Looking to build better care coordination, health systems are buying physician groups in droves. Making the deal work, however, requires careful management on the I.T. front.
