Hawaii Pacific Health has won the 2012 Enterprise HIMSS Davies Award of Excellence for use of health information technology. The organization will be honored at the 2013 HIMSS Conference next March in New Orleans.

The delivery systems’ four hospitals are at Stage 6 of HIMSS Analytics’ measurement of electronic health records adoption, the second highest level that only 378 hospitals have achieved. The technology enables clinicians to collaborate across four major Hawaiian islands.

Patient care benefits include three hospitals not having experienced a central line associated blood stream infection for more than two years, and periods of one to four years in the four hospitals without an incident of ventilator associated pneumonia. Catheter associated urinary tract infections have been significantly reduced, and the percentage of diabetic patients meeting all testing and control metrics increased from eight percent to 20 percent in two years.
