The guidance is designed to give senior executives a basic understanding of the challenges of EHR implementation. It covers seven core areas to consider as an organization plans and implements the technology. These include developing an inclusive, role-based and active executive team; developing a strategic plan; performing a gap analysis of existing information technologies; developing a high-level project plan; initiating culture change; redesigning workflow processes; and implementation.
The guidance does not fully cover the EHR selection process or meaningful use certification. AMA and CHIME completed the guidance before the final meaningful use and certification rules were issued, and will update it following an analysis of the rules. To access the guidance, click here.
