The New York Department of Health has awarded a $10 million grant to HEALTHeLINK, the Buffalo region's health information exchange, to develop a new clinical exchange focused on management of child immunization and screenings, and chronic disease.

The grant is funded through the state's Health Care Efficiency and Affordability Law (HEAL NY), which has awarded $440 million in state grants for health I.T. initiatives since 2006. Buffalo's new clinical exchange would serve as a template for other health information exchanges in New York to develop a similar exchange. The goal is to build a statewide database and create links to the state health department to streamline disease reporting.
