Good Results from QUEST Safety Program

The Premier alliance of provider organizations estimates 157 hospitals participating in its QUEST High Performing Hospitals patient safety program have saved 22,164 lives and cut spending by $2.13 billion during the past two years.


The Premier alliance of provider organizations estimates 157 hospitals participating in its QUEST High Performing Hospitals patient safety program have saved 22,164 lives and cut spending by $2.13 billion during the past two years.

Under the program, participants use Charlotte, N.C.-based Premier's Perspectives hospital database, along with help from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, to identify the main factors that lead to deaths, errors and excessive costs, as well as factors contributing to improved patient experiences.

Using Medicare data, hospitals participating in QUEST have morality rates that are 5 percent lower than control hospitals. QUEST hospitals have experienced a 2 percent growth in expenses compared to a national average of 14 percent, according to Premier.
