General Dynamics Buy Increases HIT Holdings

Government contractor General Dynamics will acquire Vangent Holding Corp., a contractor with considerable health information technology expertise, for $960 million.


Government contractor General Dynamics will acquire Vangent Holding Corp., a contractor with considerable health information technology expertise, for $960 million.

The companies expect the acquisition to close by Oct. 1. The Veritas Capital Fund presently has a majority ownership of Vangent, which will become part of General Dynamics' Information Technology unit.

Vangent has more than 7,500 employees and primarily serves federal government departments, including Health and Human Services, Education, Labor, State and Defense. Its health I.T. portfolio includes health information exchange applications such as record locator services and data repositories; and supporting such electronic health records systems as Medsphere's OpenVista, VA's VistA, Defense's AHLTA and Indian Health Services' RPMS.
