Zynchros Inc. has introduced a vendor-hosted formulary management system for health insurers and pharmacy benefit management firms.

Using the application service provider computing model, the Member Formulary Hosting product enables health plans to quickly implement a formulary query service on their public Web site or member portal without programming work, according to the Seattle-based vendor.

This means that members of a drug benefit plan can look up information on their benefits, including drug tier and co-pay, quantity limits, the need for prior authorization, therapeutic alternatives, and pricing. Most of the features are part of a basic service; co-pay and pricing are optional. The service is customizable to enable additional features, such as price comparison.

The service is compatible for commercial and Medicare Part D formularies and can be customized to match the look and feel of a health plan’s Web site. More information is available at zynchros.com.

A major success factor for accountable care organizations will be linking caregivers across the spectrum of care delivery. If history is any indication, that's going to be an industrywide struggle.
