Bellaire, Texas-based KBCore is the winner of a federal government challenge to software developers for an easier way to report patient safety events.

The Office of the National Coordinator for HIT, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and Food and Drug Administration evaluated product submissions and gave the $50,000 first place prize to KBCore for its application to scan a barcode or film a hazard, and quickly create a report, via an electronic health records system or mobile computing device.

The app collects and analyzes data from information systems, medical devices, barcodes and databases, and auto-populates a report template that can be completed and submitted by an identified or anonymous individual. More information is at kbcore.org.
