Epic Computer Systems, known for its relative ease in enabling customers to exchange health data among themselves, but criticized for difficulty in interoperating with other information systems, will connect to the emerging national clinical network of Surescripts.

Epic’s clients use the vendor’s Care Everywhere interoperability platform to exchange information among themselves, and that platform will link to the Surescripts Clinical Interoperability Network. Surescripts uses secure messaging software from vendor partner Kryptiq on the clinical network, and recently announced the acquisition of Kryptiq.

A spokesperson for Epic was not immediately available to discuss the initiative.
