The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is on the cusp of issuing the proposed rule establishing Stage 2 of the electronic health records incentive programs.

CMS has sent the rule to the Office of Management and Budget for Review, one of the last steps before publication in the Federal Register. CMS expects the rule to come out in February.

The agency on Jan. 19 sent to OMB an accompanying proposed rule to adopt standards, implementation specifications and certification criteria to ensure that EHRs support Stage 2 measures.
