Vendors to Ease Instruction Search

ExitCare LLC, which sells an electronic library of patient education material and discharge instructions, is getting help to make it easier for physicians to find the handouts they want.

The Lake Elmo, Minn.-based company has teamed with Health Language Inc. of Denver, a vendor of technology for medical vocabulary mapping and interoperability. Health Language will tag more than 3,300 ExitCare titles with ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and SNOMED CT codes. When physicians enter a code or use an electronic health records system to trigger a code, they will receive the appropriate handout for the patient's condition, according to the vendors.

Health Language's technology also can automatically map ICD-9-CM to ICD-10-CM codes when implemented, according to Health Language. ExitCare's content is available in eight languages.
