Patient safety organization and decision support vendor ECRI Institute has introduced a new version of its provider supply chain analytics product that for the first time supports use on mobile computing devices.

The SELECTplus Market Analytics tool is a decision support system supporting comparative market analysis of purchasing trends, vendor market share, popular product models and manufacturers, configuration analyses (confirming that appropriate features are included) and line item price benchmarking, according to the organization. “We help them do procurement due diligence,” says Jennifer Myers, vice president of SELECTplus advisory services.

More than 3,000 hospitals use the analytics tool, which covers anything that is purchased, including linens, food, medical and cleaning supplies, medical devices and health information technologies, among other items.

Other features include filters that users can place on categories such as trade-ins and used equipment, group buy-in and sales promotions; comparative service contract data covering prices, service levels and point of sale verses post warranty; original equipment manufacturer versus third party pricing, and online capital budgeting ranging from a single project to an enterprisewide initiative.

Budget terms are normalized in the product catalog, meaning it doesn’t matter what an organization calls a specific imaging system (Cat Scan, CT or scanner), as all the names are mapped to a standard name. “This helps them build a clean budget and see the bundling opportunities across the enterprise to reduce costs,” Myers says.
