Massachusetts once again leads the nation's states with the highest percentage of total prescriptions being transmitted electronically to pharmacies, according to an annual survey by SureScripts, operator of a national e-prescribing network.
The state's prescribers sent 20.5% of prescriptions electronically in 2008, according to Alexandria, Va.-based SureScripts. Massachusetts also led the nation last year--based on 2007 data--with a 13% rate.
Other states in the Top 10 this year and receiving the vendor's 2009 Safe-Rx Awards include, in order: Rhode Island, Michigan, Nevada, Delaware, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Maine and Arizona.
New to the Top 10 this year are Pennsylvania and Maine. Out of the Top 10 are Maryland and Washington. For the first time, SureScripts also is recognizing the five most improved states. They are: Vermont, Tennessee, Kansas, Illinois and Missouri.
The vendor also recognized six individual prescribers and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Massachusetts. More information is available at surescripts.com.
