Drug Label Database Launched
HDM Breaking News, November 3, 2009
Reed Technology and Information Services Inc., a unit of LexisNexis, has introduced a drug label (package inserts) database for industry and consumer use.
The LabelDataPlus database includes more than 5,000 current and archived FDA-approved drug labels, according to the Horsham, Pa.-based vendor. The labels cover prescription and over-the-counter medications.
According to the vendor, the database enables full-text searching across all label content and all versions of a label, not just by brand or generic names. A pharmaceutical firm, for instance, can use the database to find which product labels contain an alert about specific adverse reactions. A consumer or clinician could identify a pill based on its physical characteristics.
