Golden, Colo.-based HealthGrades has added prescription drug information to its hospital rating and comparison Web site.

The site now offers information on 4,345 prescription drugs, including which ones physicians prescribe most frequently within a class and whether the use of a specific drug is growing or waning. It also displays patient-supplied ratings on the efficacy and tolerance on specific drugs, prices and background information, such as side effects and safety warnings.

Additionally, consumers can research drugs on the site via a side-by-side comparison tool that displays each drug's rank in its class based on the number of prescriptions filled, the availability of a generic equivalent, whether it's been on the market for less than a year and its price range.

HealthGrades has licensed the data on number of prescriptions filled from IMS Health and the drug and safety price information from First DataBank. For more information, go to healthgrades.com.

A major success factor for accountable care organizations will be linking caregivers across the spectrum of care delivery. If history is any indication, that's going to be an industrywide struggle.
