St. Vincent Health Center, a 436-bed hospital in Erie, Pa., is implementing several applications from McKesson Corp., San Francisco, with a goal of providing physicians and nurses with better access to clinical information.
The hospital is replacing a 19-year-old document imaging system from another vendor with McKesson Horizon Patient Folder, says Robin Stursa, vice president and CIO at the hospital. St. Vincent has 51 million images stored and will move them to the new system. It will use the new system to scan and store a variety of clinical documents, including physicians notes, she says.
Physicians will be able to access the scanned records via a McKesson physician portal. The portal, slated to go live in December, also will provide access to other clinical information, including lab results and radiology results, through links to applications from a variety of vendors, Stursa explains. The portal will be a landing point for physicians, who now must go into multiple systems to get information, she says.
Saint Vincent Health Center also will install McKessons emergency department information system in 2010, the CIO says.
The health center is part of Saint Vincent Health System, which also owns Westfield (N.Y.) Hospital. Westfield also will implement the McKesson document imaging software.
The delivery system is implementing applications from McKessons Horizon Clinicals Care Team Release.
