Drug content database vendor First Databank has introduced the State and Federal Controlled Substances Module, a database to aid prescribers, pharmacies, drug wholesalers, claims processing vendors and others in understanding and complying with federal and state laws.

The product, updated continuously, provides required information from state schedules, along with mandated safeguards such as two-factor authentication and digital signatures, to ensure prescriptions are compliant with state-specific requirements, reducing delays in patient care, according to the vendor.

“While federal law defines baseline rules for controlled substances, many states apply more stringent standards,” says Mark Millikan, PharmD, director of product management at First Databank.
