Credit Firm Buys EDI Vendor

Credit rating firm TransUnion has acquired MedData LLC, a Charlotte, N.C.-based health care transactions processing firm, for an undisclosed sum.

Credit rating firm TransUnion has acquired MedData LLC, a Charlotte, N.C.-based health care transactions processing firm, for an undisclosed sum.

MedData offers electronic data interchange services, such as insurance eligibility, claims status and point of care payment transactions processing. TransUnion's health care division sells revenue cycle management software that verifies financial information on self-pay patients or those seeking a payment plan, and those eligible for public assistance or charity care.

“I would anticipate that this acquisition will enable TransUnion to marry the insurance eligibility verification process with financial information from its credit bureau business,” says John Osberg, principal of Informed Partners LLC, a Marietta, Ga.-based consulting firm.
