Contractor CGI Names Health Unit Leader

GCI Group Inc., an information technology contractor serving multiple sectors including government agencies and health information exchanges, has hired James Peake, M.D., a former Secretary of Veterans Affairs, as senior vice president for the health industry.


GCI Group Inc., an information technology contractor serving multiple sectors including government agencies and health information exchanges, has hired James Peake, M.D., a former Secretary of Veterans Affairs, as senior vice president for the health industry.

Peake will lead the company's health care business in the United States and Europe. The company had total revenue across all business lines of more than $3.8 billion in fiscal 2009. It provides systems integration, I.T. consulting and implementation, and I.T. and business process outsourcing services.

Peake led the VA from December 2007 to January 2009. In early 2009, he accepted a seat on the board of CGI Federal, a unit of CGI Group. He will remain a member of the CGI Federal board while running the health unit.

Following a long career in military medicine, Peake retired as a Lieutenant General in the Army. Prior to leading the VA, he served as COO at QTC Management Inc., a provider of outsourced occupational health and disability examination services; and as COO of Project HOPE, a health foundation operating in more than 30 nations.
